ABOUT US

If you've found your way here, you obviously want to know about Bertha (AKA BabyGirl) my iguana.

BabyGirl is my very special green baby girl.  I love her just as much as if she were my human child.

I first met Bertha in 1997 when I was doing reptile rescue in the Tampa Bay area.  Her owner brought her to me in a VERY tiny carrier claiming she was vicious.  To prove his point he proceeded to put his hand and arm into the little carrier to drag her out.

When he held her out so we could see her and the damage she had inflicted on him, there was pure terror in Bertha's eyes.

Most of her toes were gone.  Her tail had been chopped off and then cauterized to prevent it from re-growing.  Her body was covered with large burn marks!

Before I knew it, I found myself holding her close to me.  I could feel the tension in her.  Slowly, she began to relax and tried to snuggle closer to me.  I was hooked!

Today BabyGirl is a happy and secure ig that has her human mom wrapped around her little toe!!!
