Animal Cards, Animal Documents and Dwelling Signs |

| You have been in an accident and are
unconscious. You are not home when a fire breaks out. What
happens to the pet you left safe and sound at home? How can you
ensure that your pet's needs are met when
you are unable to give emergency workers information needed to rescue
your pet?
According to the Humane Society, there are actions you can take in advance to prepare for such emergencies. First, always carry an "animal card" in your wallet or purse, with information about your pet(s): name, breed/species, location in the house, special care and who to contact in case of emergency. Second, prepare an "animal document" containing at least the information contained on the animal card. This document should be kept with your other estate planning documents. Third, provide signage regarding your pet(s) on/in your dwelling; on windows, at the front door etc. The Humane Society of the United States http://www.hsus.org/ace/352
