"Being Prepared"
Many feel like their reptilian pet is one of the family. Those who have children will make sure their will contain provisions for the children in the event that something should happen to them. Why should your beloved pet not have the same consideration? The first of our featured articles, "Estate Planning for Pets" provides you with useful information and links to excellent sites for handling estate planning. The second featured article, "A Vet When You Need One," looks at the issue of veterinarian care before it becomes a necessity. It gives insight into why it is essential to have a veterinarian who has had experience with reptiles in general, and your reptile in particular. It provides links to assist you in finding a reptile vet in your area. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, our pet dies. "When Your Pet Dies" contains three articles to help you handde the loss of your pet. The first, "The Grieving Process," explains the five basic stages of grief and what you can expect in your grieving process. The second article, "Coping With Grief," gives advice on where to turn to for help in dealing with your grief. The article includes a multitude of on-line pet loss support hot-lines. The last article, "Your Pet's Remains," explains the various options available to pet owners and gives numerous links to help you decide what you want done with your pets' remains. It is best to have made the decision regarding your pet's remains before the need arises. How would you handle being unconscious, a fire in your home while you're gone, or any other situation where you are unable to let anyone know of your pet and its needs? In the article, "Planning Ahead," the Humane Society of the United States provides answers to these questions based on "Animal Cards," "Animal Documents" and "Dwelling Signage." Meri Martin provides excellent coverage of the various measures you can take to protect your reptile(s) during a power outage in the article, "When the Power Goes Out". Your beardie is no longer a baby. He or she has turned into an adolescent and it seems like you have to start the training process over from the start! Kathryn W. Tosney provides insights into the process of taming an adolescent bearded dragon in "Taming a Bearded Dragon: Part II: The Adolescent Angst." Be sure to check out our columns.
