THE DIARY OF WEDJIT, THE LITTLE GREEN IGLET

2005 July

July 12th 2005

I am now 13 weeks old and have left all my other hatchlings and went to seek my fortune in the big wide world. Along the way I have collected a strange pet of sorts. It likes to hang around me and although I was not sure of its full intents at first, it seems harmless enough and it lets me ride it around places so I get there faster and with less foot aches.

I left the place of my siblings a spot others call Zoo Becher but I called home for several weeks after I was hatched. Now I have my own home and boy is it BIG. the humidity is just fine a nice 75 to 80% all the time. That bad itchy spot on my nose where the last shedding did not come off has finally fell away thanks to the moisture here.

I have lots of places to climb and explore. When I first got here my pet did some very strange things. it wanted to measure me and put me on some electronic gizmo that had strange symbols on it that my pet called numbers when speaking to its female mate.

Of course they are not smart enough to understand Iguana, but I hope with time that i will be able to teach him basic body language and perhaps a few gutteral words of Higher Reptilia.

Any way when we got to my new home my pet took my length and weight, then I got a surprise. he brings out this big MASSIVE swimming pool, it must have been a whole 12 or 14 inches square. It was full of warm water which at first I was not sure of as I had never seen an ocean before. But after a bit of  apprehension I hung onto my pets paw and sat right down in there. OOO it was so nice and warm and wet.

I played in the ocean for several minutes and during that time my pet gave me a bath and got all the old stuff off of me form my last home which was way much smaller than my new condo high rise is.

So after that I got anther treat. My pet brought me with his very own paws some nice green stuff I had never seen before. I had always thought that food was round and hard and brown. but this stuff was nice and green and soft and moist. I gobbled up several nice pieces of this from his paw, then went to my new house for a relaxing lounge under the nice warm bright thingy.

Later my pet brought me LOTS of nice green and yellow and other stuffs. All soft and chewy and not hard or brown like my old food was. Life was hard as a hatchling, but now that I am all grown and have my own house and pet, things are really looking up.

After meal time I was stuffed and lounged under the bright warm thing some more. then later my pet came and got me again and we walked around with my new leash on. it is a bit of a bother, but it seems to make my pet more docile so Ideal with it.

We went out away from my house and You will NOT believe this! We entered into this strange place. it was all shinny and warm. there was lots of green things and purple things and blue and well A LOT of colors. I smelled and walked around and climbed this Giant massive green pile of soft tangly stuff. Then I found this massive forest of Dandelion trees, all tall and green and some with fluffy things on their tops. I tasted a few here and there and I must admit that they were scrumptious.

But the big shinny warm thing way up there started to hide behind lots of white and dark fluffy things. This must have distressed my pet some because we came back inside to my house then. As such I now sit here contemplating what new adventures awaits me and my pet as I explore this strange vast new world which has opened up to me. Gads it is good to be all grown and on my own at last...

Maybe he will take me to the ocean again this evening...

July 14, 2005

We are making progress, especially after finding that Dicnary book with all the words in it. Today I had my first bath with out wearing the leash. I think I have finally gotten my pet reassured that i will not take off for no reason and he is feeling much more confident.

Major thing today. my pet has been feeding me these funny but tasty little morsels. nothing at all like the pellets (yes thats the word), those pellets that the Shop use to give me.

today I figured out that I could find a WHOLE LOT of them in this little holder. it was there the whole time, I just did not realize that it was for me to eat.

Well I can tell you I just Chowed out. Boy am I stuffed. All I could do was lay under the shinny warm thingy and soak in the warmth. After I had laid around for a few hours, my pet came and gave me a nice warm bath. Said it was to help me digest better and relax. The water was a nice warm 36 Celsius and I soaked for a good 10 or 15 minutes. But by then it was time for lights out and sleepy hour. I am afraid all these green goodies will go away, so I sit on top of them and protected them. but now that the lights are out, my pet has come and taken them away. Something about that I should not lay in my dinner bowl. Silly pet, he simply does not understand that I have to protect all these goodies now that I finally found them. Boy am I upset at this moment I can tell you. I even gave him a tail lashing to show my disapproval of his removing my goodies. If he does not bring them back when lights are on I will have to climb him like a ..... well like ....  that big dandelion I climbed the other day. Yea, that is it, I will show him take my greens....

July 19, 2005

Making full progress now, I am finally off the leash when I am indoors and moving through the pets house, usually on his shoulder, though I have found his head to be a much better vantage spot.

Although we did have one set back to my feeding. I was snagged separating the good stuff form the stuff I do not like. There I was doing my usual hunt and destroy through the feeding bowl and I looked up, POW! there was my pet watching me, oooh the agony of discovery. Now he not only just mixes the stuff up, but also chops everything to the same size, I have trouble telling the goodies form the bad green stuffs.

this will take some working out. My pet has been sick the last few days, I think it is al those round things he takes every day. he should stop eating round white and blue things and start eating more greens, then maybe he would feel better I think.

No going out today, it is cold, wet, and so shinny thing in the sky. baths are actually getting to be fun, although I still do not like staying in for any length of time, so we play this in and out game I invented.

The vet visit was not as bad as I had thought it would be. The vet knew just how to hold me and what to look for. He even checked inside of my mouth and a few areas we will not discuss here as there may be young iguanas reading this, "You know adult stuff like", I was weighted, measured and probed and prodded, but it was all done so quick and fast I never knew what had happened until it was over. So I got very little stressed out over the entire thing.

He told my pet that the Hindleg leash could cause more problems than it was worth and to go back using the over under arm method and only when required. So this as well has given me a bit more freedom. Since my pet has been sick, when he came to hold me today I did not make him exercise for it. I went right to him, so that he knows I do care. You have to temper strength with love when dealing with pets you know.

Well that is about it for now, will write some more later when I have some free time. though I am still not liking this new phase of my feeding. he is even now measuring exactly how much food of each item goes into my dish, to see how much I eat each day. He told his mate that then he would set a steady scheduled dietary plan on a weekly basis for me. THIS simply does not sound good on my side of the view as it certainly means I may have to start eating things I do not like, PHOOOOEEE!! and I told him that just today...

July 21 2005

OH NO!!! something is wrong, Very Wrong. my hatchling skin is back again, this is impossible, I am all grown up!!!!!

It started yesterday but I was not sure. A few, just a few of the scales around the edge of my mouth and the tip of my nose started turning a Gray color, sort of dulling.

I thought that maybe I had got some food stuck and dried on my nose, so I tried to rub it off, but that did not work. Tthen today I noticed it has started to spread. Slowly, insidiously, but surely.

I do not thing my pet has noticed yet, but he  has started expending my baths from 15 to 20 minutes and now instead of 2 baths every other day with one bath between, he has started doing two soakings a day now and for 20 minutes each, Gads!. Could he have noticed my disease already?

My pet went over me today with a looking g lass thing which makes me look larger. He searched around my mouth, spines (I am starting to get spines now, ACTUAL SPINES!!).

But after a good looking over to include that one scab spot where I got hurt before coming to my new home, he then bathed me, taking special care to make sure my snout and face got lots of water washed over it. He would sprinkle water over my head so it would flow down and over my face. He has tohave noticed the scales, noticed that I have "Hatchling rot again, OH NO The Horror!

During the soak today he would soak his hand in the water and gently stroke his fingers across those darker grey areas. OH I hope I do not go getting pimple scales again. All the other Iguanas in the hatchery laughed when I got my peelings. The larger Iguanas there would  always beat me up and chase me away from the hatching pellets, so I did not get a lot to eat and was always worried about being picked on.

But here I have my house ALL to myself. All the good green stuffs I want to eat, heeheehee, let them fight over those ol'dry pellets NOW!

BUT, what  if I am getting Hatchling peelings again, my new pet may not love me any more. maybe he will think I am too much a bother and take me back to that "place". Oh I am so nervous, I even flared my Dewlap ant my pet today for no reason. I can not go back there, I would simply die for sure....

"OK Wedjit, Calm down, take deep breaths, it will all be ok". "Your pet still is with you right?", "He still baths you and feeds you treats right?"

"But maybe he has not seen my Peelings yet, Oh it was soo bad the last time, all dry and itchy. And so many stuck on me and hurt and itched all the time"

"Yes, but your pet took you even then right?, he cared for you and got the old peeling off right?, so if he could care then, why not now?"

"Ok ok, I will wait and see. See if he really will still hold me when I am all peely and dull, Will he really still want me, stilll care?, even when I have scales hanging all over me.

I just hope it will not be so dry and itchy and hard this time. BUT OO My Pet, I really do not want to lose him, lose my house, and all the good greens, I HATE THIS STUPID DISEASE; I HATE THIS HATCHLING SKIN:::  NO; I will not lose him!!  I can not!!"

I will be the Perfect owner. I will sit in the warm water longer if he wants. I will let him hold me longer if he wants, just anything so I do not lose all that I have now,Ii do not, CAN NOT go back to that, (place) again".

Breath breath, E-A-S-Y.... Everything will be ok, you will see, it will all work out just fine. Patience my precious, patience", OOpps wrong diary8-)

OHH I m so embarrassed. there I was taking my Morning bath and Whoosh, I pooped, ohhh the inhumanity of it all.!

Yes, POOPED!, right there,,,

Right  in His PAW!!!

Yes, I did it, Pooped right there  "right in my Pets Paw"...... he was taking me out of the water, it was not my fault honest.

I have Never pooped during bath time before, NEVER, I know he will just not give me a bath again, OH What have I done????

Humm, maybe f I act REEEEEEALLY cute and that I want to be around him more. Maybe then he will forget this horribly incident.

Ooohh, first hatchling-Eyedis, now this, golly this is just not my week.

(Side note for information, Hatchling Disease is simply regular shedding, but Wedjit has not figured out that this will happen often yet)...

==================================================================================

Today my pet took my house apart, I also discovered another Iguana was here. I saw him sitting on my Pets Mates shoulder. I was sitting on one side, looked up as she was doing something with her hair, and there across the way I saw him. Sort of weird as I was there sitting on her shoulder, but I look across and there I see her AGAIN, with this other Iguana.

I was really upset and wrote asking for help to the iguana den site. I was afraid he was cleaning it up for the new Iguana. Washing away all of my markings and stuff.

I was soo scared and worried.

Anyway, I later find he was just cleaning it up a bit. For ME!!!!

So here is my latest report. It clears things up a bit on what was actually going on.

Oh Golly, I could have never been so wrong as today.

I have not seen the other Iguana since that one time, I can only guess that it was traveling through or visiting my Pets mate. (That was when I saw it was on her Shoulder).

It seems my Pet did not like my house the way it as for some reason, he took it all apart, washed it down with that funny smelling water, put it all back together and left it open to air for an hour.

Then instead of giving it to the other Iguana like I had thought. He gave it back to ME,

YES, Really!

I was so surprised. I went all over the place making sure everything was there. The only difference was there was no poopies or anything left anymore. Even the smell was gone when I went back.

His mate took him to a hatchling gathering if its own kind. He did not want to go, but his mate insisted, they call it a "Family Reunion". When he came back he took me out into the forest again. We had fun under the Sun, yes, that is what the shinny thing is. I found it in the Dicnary.

I stepped into a brown mound and was instantly attacked by these horrible little six legged monsters. They tried to bite me and stuff. But my Pet was right there. He scooped me up and at risk to his own self and attacked the monsters and got them all off of me.

I could have never been so wrong. My pet is not going to send me away, I know this now. I am still worried about this Hatchling Skin. Will it keep coming back?? If so for how long?

Is there someway I can stop it, or make it go away quicker?

I see that it distresses my Pet when he sees it. He is keeping close watch on me and checks it every day. Once in the morning and once at night. He has started giving me two baths a day now. Use to it was one bath one day, then two baths the next, but not since this started showing up.

Well I hope all of your guys Pets are as Loving and caring as mine. So is there anything special that yur pets do with you. Maybe if I like it, I can teach mine to do the same things as well.

Opps got to go, he is coming to give me my afternoon bath.

I really have decided that I do not like baths to much. But if he insist, then I will settle down and give in. I am just so happy to know he will not be sending me away because of this hatchling Skin thing.

 Gotta go, later all

July 24 2005

Well I got snagged again today. there I was looking at Iguana Nudy pics on the internet and my Pet came in. I guess he would not have been so upset if I had not been using his name and passwords for it :-P

Now I am grounded from Using the computer for a whole week. A WHOLE WEEK, get that!

At least I know he cares and will be keeping me. Today I was being belligerent and refusing to eat. after trying to even hand feed me (I was protesting about the computer), He actually went to take my food bowl out! Well I can say I suddenly acquired an appetite. I ran over to my food dish, blew out my Dewlap, straddled the bowl and started eating big mouthfuls. THERE that will show him I guess. All he did was started laughing and called his mate to see me. Go figure, try to make a point and you get it in the end :-(

he is now using a special Thermometer which has a probe on the end of a wire. Even though he has thermometers placed at different spots, he says this way he can regularly check and make sure they are working properly. Also, he put in a new Basking bulb so is checking the temps. it seems this one burns hotter than the last. So he will have to change the height of my basking area to compensate. He takes such good care of me. Actually I think he overdoes it a bit now and then on the care issues. but he is so concerned how can I tell him he is going overboard???

Do any of you other Iguanas have the same problems? he says I am going into Phase 2 of my feeding program. Now that he has all the foods I eat calculated, and Daily menus made up, he is measuring exactly how much I eat and how much of each item he gives to me. Something about knowing how much intake verses actual food preparation or something like that.

Anyway I got to explore the entire Living room today. I even went back to my Pet afterwards to show him I cared also. It was the first time I did this, so it made him very happy, I could tell. Anyway I am now off back to get warmed up again under my new basking lamp.  do hope he got the temperature right as I really liked it the way it was with the last lamp.

Later all, Wedjit

July 28, 2005

A Lot has happened over the past few days. outings into the sunshine, baths everyday. I have now started my exploration of the so called "Living Room" are of my Pets house.

I started on the window ledge, where all the dill plants and such were sunning. but, now I have expanded my searches beyond, for I have discovered I can use the full length of the sofa back, to go anywhere across the room, then climb down the sides for a further investigation of the lower regions.

The first time I did this and disappeared under the sofa my Pet got a bit upset, so I came out the other end to check on him a bit. Since then I have not been allowed to get to floor level that much any more. two, count them TWO Baths per day. My Hatchling skin which I have been informed due to my continued learning of my pets language, is actually called in human speak, "Shedding". I guess this is a usual occurrence from what I have been able to translate from discussions around here. So I do not feel so bad about it any more.

the baths really help, as the "Scales", on my face are starting to come off now soooo easily. Not like when I was at the hatching place an they were all dry and sticking to me. Yes, I have really come to like it here. things are moving along very well with my pets training. I can now get him to understand when I am upset over something, or if I want to go for a walk or simply get out and explore that "Living room" some more.. At first the birds that live above the windows had me scared, but I quickly figured out that they can not get me, so I will climb now to the top of the largest plant on the window sill, puff myself up at them and dare them to try and get me.

At first my Pet thought that I was being upset, silly pet. So he would take me away from there. But I would simply climb right back up, go to MY plant, and puff up at them all over again. After about the fifth time in a row, he got the idea and left me alone. Now I can go and declare my domain to any bird in the window, then go off exploring, with the sure knowledge that they will now not come inside to MY plants any more. Yes, life is really shaping up around here for me.

Friday July 29th, THRU Monday August 1st, 2005

I am combining these four days as they sort of lead one into another. Although this is not the Norm for a diary, I am not the Norm of a type of Diary writer either :-)

So here we go....

Well All in all it has been a very exciting weekend for me.

First my pet and his mate went with others of the family to gather wood and get it ready for the winter. they brought back over 4 cords as they call it. basically BIG large trailers full of it. they had split it before, then they attached a saw thing to the back of the Tractor (here it is called a Bull Dog for some reason), and the tractor powered the Saw. they then cut the pieces and stacked them onto the trailer. It is over 2 meters high and 3 or 4 meters long, BIG. After this we had a rest and got ready for the big time traveling trip.

I got a new Mobile house to play in. Everything got packed on Friday night, then Saturday morning we started with a bath and bit of breakfast, then packed up and moved out. Some where along the line, we hit a dimensional time spartal, and I soon found myself in the Middle-Ages. Of course being the only live Dragon around, I got lots of attention, and after saving several young maidens from a group of terrible Knights they all got together and had a picture made to commemorate the event.

One Lady was Terribly afraid of Me, but I was so Cute she said she just had to touch me. Plus I was on my best behavior wanting to make sure my Pet was proud of me as well.

We returned to this time about Saturday evening our own time frame and rested up the rest of the evening. Then Sunday Morning we went hunting for Flint Rocks as my Pet likes to beat them together making funny shaped things for some reason. He even laughs when he gets his hands cut, we go through a LOT of bandages around here as you may guess.

My pet can not take a lot of excitement and all of this was simply too much for him, he was very sick on Monday and did not get my breakfast to me until much later than usual. Although he does leave me plenty of greens for over night since he does get sick a lot. I think it is all those funny round white and blue things he takes each day. He would probably do better with more greens in his diet I think.

He sometimes tries not to take them, but then gets really sick and his mate gets very angry. You know I do not think he really likes taking those things, but, I just can not figure out why he does then??

Anyway, He came later than usual to feed me and clean the cage, so I got a bit angry with him and bit his finger when he tried to get me to come to him. OH, nothing serious, just a nip to show I was upset. Then I went to him and he made it up by spending a lot of time with me for the rest of the day. He even let me climb the Drapes and lay on top of the limbs that hold them up. I like to do that, but usually he will not let me.

Anyway, that is about all there is to do or say for now, so I will let you all go.
